All pieces

• Last on, first off: perfume, lotion and hairspray before the jewelry.
• Wipe with the soft cloth after wear. Warm water and a dry cloth is all most finishes ask for.
• Store dry, in the box or pouch it arrived in, pieces separated.

Waterproof-grade steel

The pieces we list as waterproof-grade are 316L stainless steel with PVD plating, and they stay on in the shower and in the sea. Rinse them in fresh water afterwards and dry them, so salt, chlorine and soap are not left sitting on the finish. Take them off for the sauna, and for anything that will knock them against a hard surface.

Gold plating, plated brass & vermeil

Plating we do not list as waterproof-grade needs to stay dry. Water works its way under a plated finish rather than running off it, so remove plated brass, gold plated silver and vermeil before swimming, showering, sport and sleep. Never use chemical dips, which strip the plating. Vermeil (thick gold over solid silver) wears years longer when it is kept dry.

Crystal & pearl

Perfume, hairspray and hand cream dull crystal and mark pearl, so these go on last and come off first. Keep them out of water, wipe them with a dry cloth only, and store them where a harder piece cannot knock against them.

Solid silver

Silver tarnishes with air — that is chemistry, not a fault. A silver cloth brings it straight back. Wearing it often actually keeps it brighter.

Solid gold

Warm water, a drop of dish soap and a soft brush, then pat dry. Solid gold does not tarnish; it only asks not to be scratched.
